The Agriculture Department is scrambling to rehire several workers it fired as part of President Donald Trump’s broad cuts because they were involved in the government’s response to the ongoing bird flu outbreak that has devastated egg and poultry farms over the past three years. Republican Rep. Don Bacon said the Department of Government Efficiency should be more careful and “measure twice and cut once.” A USDA spokesperson said the agency did protect veterinarians and several other jobs involved in the bird flu response but some workers were mistakenly fired over the weekend. So the Department is working to rescind those termination letters.
