Japanese leader says he hopes Osaka expo will help reunite a divided world

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has attended the opening ceremony for Expo 2025 Osaka and expressed his hope that the event will help restore global unity in a world is plagued by conflicts and trade wars. The six-month expo officially opens Sunday as Osaka hosts about 180 countries, regions and organizations. The event’s celebrations have been somewhat dampened by U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent tariff threats, which add to Russia’s war in Ukraine and conflict in the Middle East. The expo has been also hit by soaring costs and construction delays due to weaker yen and dwindling public interest.
