Santorini earthquakes are decreasing but outlook is uncertain, top Greek scientist says

Following swarms of undersea tremors, authorities have declared emergencies on Santorini, Ios, Amorgos, and Anafi, with thousands evacuating to the mainland. Schools remain closed as officials implement precautionary measures. Top government seismologist Costas Papazachos said while magma is influencing the seismic activity, but with no immediate threat of volcanic eruption. Scientists continue monitoring multiple data sources as earthquakes up to magnitude 5.1 persist in the region.
