A 66-year-old suspect in the 1977 slaying of a Hawaii teenager has agreed to be extradited from Utah to face a murder charge. Gideon Castro waived the right to challenge his extradition during a Wednesday court appearance in Salt Lake City. Castro, who is ill, appeared by video from a jail hospital bed. The killing of 16-year-old Dawn Momohara at Honolulu’s McKinley High School had haunted students and staff from the school for decades. Her body was found on the second floor of a school building. Police said she had been strangled and sexually assaulted. Castro was identified as a suspect based on recently obtained DNA evidence.
